Romany Housing

Bachelor’s thesis „Romany housing“ deals with the issue of underprivileged accomodation. This is a complex of four apartment buildings and one community center. It is located on the site in Brno-Maloměřice. The site is flat, it is surrounded by little terraced houses on one side and large prefabricated metal halls on the other side. Apartment buildings respond to the surroundings by creating transition between little houses and large halls - they have relatively large mass, but it is split by saw-tooth roof that creates illusion of terraced houses. Main idea of the project is layout variability - it reacts to various number of romany family members. Single apartement building has two storeys, community center has one story and basement. Supporting structure is made of aerated concrete blocks. The foundations are made of non-reinforced concrete, the roof is partly saw-tooth, partly flat. Bachelor’s thesis includes a model and a detail of recessed railing in reinforcedconcrete wall which carries the exterior staircase.
Romanies and Coexistence with Them in View of Czech Public – April/May 2023

April and May survey of CVVM focused on public attitude and public relationships between Czech population and Romany minority. Survey showed that almost two thirds of Czech citizens (63%) see living together of Romany and non-Romany population as bad in Czech Republic generally. But since 2015 this negative perception decreased for 20 percentage points.
The values of children and young people from sociocultural disadvantaged backgrounds (research in elementary school Chanov)

This diploma thesis deals with the values of children and youth in the context of a sociocultural disadvantaged backgrounds. The work has theoretical and empirical character. The theoretical part explains the basic terminology and assumptions relating to values and value orientation, moral development of children, social exclusion. The text provides a detailed description of the Roma population including its history and current status, possible causes of problems and theoretical solutions psychosocial differences. Practical work provides data on socially excluded Roma locality Chanov and especially local elementary school. The research study provides an interpretation which life values Roma children perceive as important and what attitude to their value orientation have teachers of elementary school Chanov. The results of interviews and questionnaires are compared with the conclusions of the studies mentioned in the theoretical part.
Supporting Programs for Substitute Families with Romany Children

This bachelor thesis deals with the substituting of family care for children with Roma roots in the Czech Republic. The main focus is the specific support programs for families who adopted Roma children. This thesis maps out existing support programs for the substitute families with Roma children. Three programs have been selected and described in detail, based on interviews with the ones who implement these programs. The description focuses mainly on the following aspects: The way in which Roma culture is explained to the substitute families, sources of information provided by the overseers of programs to the substitute families, and proportion of Roma and non-Roma workers involved in the preparation and implementation of these programs. The perspective of the support programs are supplemented by the reflection of these activities by the participants of the programs. This thesis also includes information on the outlying framework of the given subjects, i.e. the system of substitute child care in the Czech Republic. This thesis also points out the over-represented number of Roma children in group facilities compared to the majority of the population and, at the same time, applicants of substitute family care are unwilling to accept Roma children. The issue of coexistence of the Czech population with traditional national minorities and newcomers from the First World War to the present

This bachelor thesis deals with the coexistence of traditional national minorities with the Czech population from First World War to the present. The first part defines the basic concepts and theories relevant for the understanding of interethnic coexistence. The second part describes the history of Jews, Romanies and Germans on the Czech territory. The last chapter contains links of individual minorities' problematics in the context of the migration crisis and the escalation of inter-ethnic conflict in general.
Romany Experience in Communicating with Local Authorities

Bachelor thesis "Romany Experience in Communicating with Local Authorities" deals with going of communication among Romanies and local authorities based on statements of both sides. Thesis tries to define repetitive dysfunction characteristics of the communication and clarify their origin taking in account intercultural differences among individual participants. On the theoretical base, the thesis deals with creation and substantiality of the Romany identity and living conditions of Romanies in connection with discrimination and its effects. Last but not least the thesis tries to find out how significant the impact of Romany social exclusion and resulting way of living can be on majority non/acceptance.

June survey of CVVM focused on public attitude and public relationships between Czech population and Romany minority. Survey showed that more than three quarters of Czech citizens (78%) see living together of Romany and non-Romany population as bad in Czech Republic generally. 56% of Czechs think that Romanies have worse possibilities to get a job than the majority population, 38% think that Romanies have worse conditions, if they are trying to assert themselves in public life, 29% see the possibilities of Romanies as worse also in case of qualification, 25% in case of education, and 22% in case of housing.
